Welcome to ALPSP AeBC - a cooperative service for Publisher Members
Following the success of the well-established ALPSP Learned Journals Collection (ALJC), ALPSP has introduced a new cooperative service in partnership with Ingram Digital Group for ALPSP members who publish eBooks called the ALPSP eBooks Collection (AeBC).
The ALPSP eBook Collection (AeBC) is a compilation of specialist titles offered by members of the Association of Learned and Professional Society Publishers (ALPSP), many of whom are specialized society, academic and university presses with a specific subject area focus. The AeBC is made up of cross-publisher subject collections. To obtain detailed information about joining the AeBC please contact: Ruth Jones at Ingram Digital.
The collections are released twice a year. The 2010 Collection participating publishers include:
- American Psychiatric Publishing
- Amsterdam University Press
- Australian Academic Press
- Channel View Publications
- Edinburgh University Press
- EDP Sciences
- Equinox Publishing
- European Respiratory Society
- Hindawi Publishing Corporation
- IOS Press
- International Food Information Service
- Federation Press
- NRC Research Press
- The Policy Press
- Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists
- Royal College of Psychiatrists
- University of Buckingham Press
- Multi-Science Publishing
Many of the titles available in the AeBC have not been previously available as eBooks. The ALPSP subject collections offer libraries an attractive solution to help meet growing demand to build eBook holdings in specific subject areas. It also means that ALPSP publishers can compete to sell multi-title collections which are usually the preserve of larger commercial publishers.
The AeBC is available exclusively through Ingram Digital's MyiLibrary platform.
The Collection Comprising many unique titles from specialist publishers, the ALPSP eBook Collection (AeBC) is made up of subject collections. Participation in the collection is open to smaller and medium size ALPSP member publishers. Many of these society, academic and small university press publishers have not previously made their content available in electronic format. The collection consist of more than 1,100 titles, split into 11 subject categories. The collections are available exclusively on Ingram Digital's MyiLibrary platform. Titles are licensed in perpetuity.
Core Collection (1,132 titles) Education (43 titles) Geography, Anthropology & recreation (40 titles) Language & Literature (314 titles) Law (27 titles) Medicine (141 titles) Philosophy, Psychology & Religion (78 titles) Political Science (66 titles) Science (107 titles) Social Sciences (182 titles) Technology (62 titles) World History (72 titles)
For Libraries There are many reasons to select the AeBC for your institution's resources:
- Cross-publisher packages enabling an institution to pick and choose specific either subject sub-collections or the complete collection
- Official publications from leading society, academic and specialist university press publishers
- Exceptional value as not-for-profit publishers do not mark up their content
- Collections made up of primarily front-list titles from participating publishers available in perpetuity
- Access to content that is never off the shelf and is available from anywhere 24 hours a day
- Flexible authentication for access to the MyiLibrary platform to suit your organization's preferences, including IP range, Shibboleth and Athens
- Integration into OPAC systems, making it easy to find and view eBooks alongside your other information resources, supported by quality MARC records
- Comprehensive COUNTER compliant reporting on e-book usage activity
- No proprietary e-book reader required
- The collection can be enhanced and is cross-searchable with any of the 175,000+ e-books available for purchase on MyiLibrary.
For Publishers Designed specifically for small and medium-sized publisher members of ALPSP, the AeBC enables members to add eBooks to a complete collection and also a range of subject sub-collections so that they can be sold together as a significant group of titles to academic libraries worldwide. Participating publishers will receive a revenue share from sales in quarterly instalments. Uploading titles to the MyiLibrary platform - if they are not already there - is free.
Other benefits for members who decide to join the scheme have also been agreed with Ingram Digital and include:
- Inclusion in best-of-breed subject collections, offered exclusively on the leading aggregated eBook platform, MyiLibrary
- Global distribution to libraries and other institutions through Ingram Digital's distribution partners including Swets, Coutts Information Services and ProQuest
- Exclusive offers on print-on-demand from Lightning Source
It is ALPSP's belief that this new cooperative service provides a valuable facility that allows members to compete on even terms with some of the larger publishers who are already making successful offerings of multi-title collections to the rapidly growing eBooks market. As a non-exclusive arrangement, titles can also be made available from publishers' own websites and elsewhere.
