Assistant Commissioning Editor Grade: 6 (1 FTE)
Department: UCL Press, UCL Library, Culture, Collections and Open Sciences
Location: Bloomsbury Campus
Hours of work: 36.5 hours, Mon - Fri
Hybrid working: This role is considered suitable for regular remote working some days each month on campus. The work pattern for the role will be agreed with the line manager

UCL LIBRARY, CULTURE, COLLECTIONS AND OPEN SCIENCE that open-access permissions for the use of third party content have been cleared correctly.

Job Description

  • Create new records for contracted titles in the book title management system.
  • Undertake contracts administration, ensuring contracts are processed and archived in a timely manner.
  • Manage the forward programme of contracted titles, liaising with authors to ensure manuscripts are delivered on time, updating the forward programme as needed and communicating significant changes to relevant colleagues.
  • Support the Commissioning Editors with preparation of paperwork for the Editorial Board.
  • Complete the production handover form and supply all files to production to ensure a smooth handover process.
  • Liaise with authors paying a Book Processing Charge to ensure that finance colleagues can process payments in a timely manner.
  • Undertake other ad hoc duties as needed to support the Commissioning Editors in their work.
  • Carry out any other duties as are within the scope, spirit and purpose of the job as requested by the line manager, the Directors, senior staff acting as Duty Officer or the Pro-Vice-Provost (UCL Library Services).
  • The post holder will support and advance UCL's equality, diversity and inclusion ambitions.
  • The post holder will maintain an awareness and observation of Health and Safety Regulations and will be required to undertake Fire Marshal duties, after appropriate training.

Experience of the editorial process in a scholarly publisher, preferably at assistant level within a commissioning department and across a range of subject areas Essential Application + interview

Good understanding of the open-access publishing movement Essential Application + interview
